Description

What‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ is X-ray?

X-ray inspection machine is a reliable & effective method to detect defects in products at the manufacturing stage to avoid rework, scrapping, or exceeding tolerance errors. This method is a pre-emptive solution for process quality control in SMT production. X-ray inspection machine is a very efficient tool that can help companies produce quality products and optimize their profit.

Benefits of X-ray inspection of SMT

Where AOI only inspects the surface, X-rays are capable of penetrating the solder joints and measuring the BGA void ratio, through-hole solder penetration, and solder ball offset distance. So, the greatest strength of X-ray lies in its penetrating the component body and directly looking at the solder joints that are hidden by the body component.

What are the types of X-ray inspection at KING FIELD?

-‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Printed circuit board inner layer traces

- Embedded components

- Testing of BGA type

- QFN/QFP type detection

- Testing of connectors

- Inspection of through-hole components

- Test of coil/transformer

- Detection of blind buried holes

- Visual representation of ball grid array (BGA)

- It is capable to recognize wrongly placed decoupling capacitors.

- Solder voids can be detected

- Identification of plug holes is a ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌breeze

Why is KING FIELD your trusted PCB X-ray inspection partner?

What‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ is X-ray?

The X-ray inspection equipment that we have is an imported American product:

  • The View X1800 is the latest product in the X-ray inspection series, large inspection area, and capable of tilting the X-ray tube.
  • Besides, KING FIELD is credited with the possession of advanced 2D, 2.5D and 3D CT X-ray systems.
  • Also, trusted by the clients because KING FIELD employs experienced and well-trained X-ray inspectors.
  • Besides medical device manufacturers, we also help ensure that FDA tests have a 100% pass rate.

FAQ

Q1: How long does your PCB X-ray inspection process time?

KING‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ FIELD: At KING FIELD, a quick 2D scan is just a matter of minutes, but a full 3D CT scan may take up to several hours.

Q2: Are your X-ray inspections safe for PCB components?

KING FIELD: If done the right way, PCB X-ray inspections are completely safe and will not damage electronic components or the circuit board.

Q3: Are you able to detect all PCB defects with your X-ray inspection?

KING FIELD: X-ray inspection is definitely a major asset but it cannot stand-alone. Some surface defects only remain visible through optical inspection.

Q4: How come air bubbles and voids in BGA solder joints are hard to measure accurately?

KINGFIELD: One major problem is that normally the voids are not clearly separated, so manual measurement can often lead to wrong results. However, if we have a machine that automatically identifies bubbles, we will be able to find the boundaries of the voids and calculate the void area relative to the total solder joint area, hence completely removing the errors of human measurement.

Q5: What makes X-ray inspection and CT scan of PCB different from each other?

KING FIELD: Typically, X-ray inspection is what we call 2D imaging, while CT scans are capable of generating an entire 3D model of the internal structure of the ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌PCB.
